Good interview, however I do not agree with the argument that God did not intend everyone (including animals) to be destroyed, simply because of 1samuel 15:14 …why is Samuel so angry with Saul?
Real Gods do what they want, and when they want. They are wild, and unpredictable.
The explanation that it’s a phrase which means something slightly different (supported by quotes from elsewhere) is a good one, but … why didn’t God just say what He meant? We’d be clear, and the militant atheists would have less ammunition. And the explanation that it makes us dig more deeply into the Scriptures doesn’t hold water: there are plenty of examples of texts being quite clear, but still providing further depths for us as we prayerfully examine them. We don’t need misleading texts to stimulate us!
