I am wary of this book. It appears to me that Viola and Sweet are leaning emergent if not already there. Viola’s emphasis on making Jesus central borders on mysticism from what I have read from him. I use to endorse his books such as “Rethinking The Wineskins” but not anymore now that he leans to Gene Edwards type mysticism and his endorsements of emergents such as Brian McLaren or Tony Jones.

I hope you are mentioning this as something we can’t point to when we are asked what bad theology looks like. Aside from that, I have enjoyed your book recommendations.

Have to agree with the comments above. Not familiar with Viola, but recently read Sweet’s book “So Beautiful”. He does not lean emergent, he is in up to his neck. From what I can tell in his writing, he’s a theological liberal, a deconstructionist and some of what he wrote is simply outside the bounds of orthodoxy.

Was astonished to see Chandler as one of the endorsers. He seems like the outlyer in the list.
