The Theology App has hit the apple app store with its first major update. Here are some of the new features:

* The app is now completely mobile. You have the option to either stream or download every lecture. In addition to video, we’ve added an audio option. Going on a long trip? Not going to have wireless access? Just download a bunch of lectures ahead of time and then you can remove them from your device as you complete the classes. Download as many sessions as your device can handle. 60 hours of theological training now available anytime/anywhere.

* The app now gives you total orientation control. Want to see the powerpoint slides in Portrait view? No problem. How about Landscape view? No problem. Turn your device however you like on any screen in The Theology App and the app will adjust to your preference.

* The Theology App is now a universal app! Buy it once and install it on an iPhone and iPad. The app is now a full-screen iPad app. The next update will take the iPad experience to even a greater level. The slides and workbooks have never looked better on the large iPad screen.

* You now have the ability to take any screen of the app to fullscreen. Looking at the Postmodern Epistemology slides and want to go fullscreen, no problem.

* The app now allows you to listen to theology while the phone is asleep. Put on a lecture from Trinitarianism, place your phone in your pocket, and go running while learning about the greatness of your God. Double-click on the home button and the iPod controls become The Theology App controls! We think that’s pretty cool.

If you don’t have The Theology App please Click Here. A seminary’s worth of theological training for only $6.99!

p.s. Do you know someone who would really geek out on this app? Don’t forget you can gift apps to other people. Click to purchase the app and you will see a button entitled “Gift App” to give the gift of theology to someone you love.

p.p.s. For you with Android phones and the Kindle Fire we have not forgotten about you. We hope to have a full featured version of the app available within the next 6 months or less.

      That looks awesome!

    • caleb

      Is it available on android?

    • Timothy Payne

The android version isn’t ready yet. Because there are so many models it takes a bit more to develop a stable version that will hopefully work on a majority of devices. Our plan is to have a fully featured version in the android market within 6 months or less.

      Superb update!! Thanks much ….

Perhaps this is a silly question, but is it possible to use this program without a smartphone altogether? I would love to study this on my PC, but I do not have a smartphone. Maybe that is wishful thinking, but I thought I would ask nonetheless.

Thanks so much, this looks amazing!! It’s so much more useful now that I can download the lectures and don’t need a constant internet connection. I really appreciate the update.

Have there been problems with the app with an ipod touch? I have not been able to use the new app or he old one. Any suggestions?

I love this app. I bought it last night and started watching the first lesson. Great content! I’ve been wanting to take courses at the credo house especially since so many of my friends have gone through the program and I drive by it on my way home everyday but I haven’t been able to free up the time required. This should do for now. The only thing I wish is that I could download the audio and/or video files to my iphone and watch them independently of the app, maybe you can and i haven’t figured it out.

I just purchased the App on my iPad and it is very well done. Love the multitasking ability that is built into the app (i.e listen to lecture while following the power points, or notebook). Since we teach the theology courses at our bible institute, I will be recommending all of our students to just buy this app since most have an iPhone or iPad, and I’m glad to hear that the Android version is coming as well.

I highly recommend this app for anyone wishing to study through the Theology Program, or if you use the materials to teach with.

        Robert,

Great to hear. Just so you know we’re planning on increasing the quality of the videos for the iPad in upcoming releases (if they get the app now it’ll automatically update in future releases). The video, especially on an iPad 3, does look low resolution. With more than 60 hours of video, however, it’ll take us a while to re-render and re-upload every session so it looks crystal clear on an iPad 3. Please let us know how the app works with your teaching.

Thanks for being on the frontline of helping to make theology accessible and practical. Our Savior is worth the attention!

      Josh,

Although one of the major updates of the app is to allow you to download video and/or audio for off-the-grid access, you’re only able to watch or listen to the content through the app. This guarantees that the app will work on everyone’s device because the user could rename a file or move it to another directory on their phone and it would break the app. Having it only work through the app allows us to keep the app stable and also reduce any piracy that might happen with audio/video files being so easily accessed.

I hope that’s understandable…please let me know, however, if you have any ideas how to make the app more convenient for you and I’ll try to work it into the next update.

      thanks,
      Tim

Your update fixed all the problems I was having with your product on my Iphone Tim. Now I can view everything.

A big thanks, and great job to all of you.

    • Timothy Payne

      J.R.,

That’s fantastic! I’m really glad to hear the update fixed those pesky problems.

      Tim,

Are there plans in the work to re-shoot all 6 of your Theology Program courses at the Credo House in the future and update the app with those?

Have you thought about including videos of lectures by Dr. Wallace and others on the app as well?

    • Robert Jimenez

      Tim,

are there any plans to make the Discipleship Program available in an iOS app? That would be great. We are going to start the Discipleship Program at our Church on June 6, 2012. It will replace our New Believers course that we have been teaching.

Anyhow, this is really great. Like I mentioned I think that the price is so good that I’ll just recommend that all our students purchase the app so that they can follow along with us with the workbooks. There are a few points that I usually don’t cover in the class and just have them read through the workbooks, but with the lectures available I can just have them listen to the sections I don’t cover.

Some of the stuff I leave out for example on the Atonement, I only cover the main one, and let them read the other positions on their own, if they have any questions they can bring them up in class or email me. I’ll do that if it makes sense and easy to understand.

Keep up the great work you guys are…

    • Timothy Payne

      Robert,

Yes, the Discipleship Program app is on its way. The name of the app has already been reserved. It will simply be called “Discipleship”. I think it’ll be a wonderful app. We’ll be able to have HD versions for the retina display devices. I don’t think it’ll be in the app store by June 6th but will hopefully be in the store sometime this summer.

      God bless,
      Tim

      J.R.,

We’ve been talking about reshooting The Theology Program for a while but keep looking for the right time to start it. We want to do it right in HD with a good video producer. We think if we do it right it’ll hopefully be useful for a while. We’ve determined it would take at least $50k to redo the videos. If you know of anyone who could help make this a reality please let us know.

Yes, once it is filmed the new videos would replace the existing ones on the app, it would be a free update!

Regarding the Dr. Wallace videos…we’re also planning an app that will simply be called “Credo.” This app will have a whole bunch of content. The Dr. Wallace videos, upcoming JP Moreland videos, articles, boot camp videos, and a lot of other content will be on the Credo app. This app will be updated pretty frequently with a wide array of discipleship resources. Look for the Credo app in the fall.

Do I have to pay anything extra to watch the different lectures?

    • Timothy Payne

      Teleologist,

All the lectures are included in the price of the app! You get access to stream or download all 60 lectures.

I love the theology program but the video streaming is hanging up and I can not view anything now. Tried to download audio and video but got error messages. This happening on both my IPhone and IPad. Do you have any suggestions. I have tried deleting the app and reloading…no help. Please help.
